Penguin Twentieth-Century Classics paperback edition
Viceking's Graab was a short story by Shem the Penman in 19XX. In July 2015, it was entirely rewritten by Christoph Magreat, translated into English, and converted into a blog (without ever having even heard of the original). The title is taken from James Joyce's Finnegans Wake, alluding to HCE's tomb as seen by Shem and Shaun (who appear, during the exchange from which the title is taken, as a tourist and pagan native, respectively-- after having swapped identities, of course).
Synopsis[]
The original short story had no plot. It was a series of letters containing letters whose letters had no relation to each other, except mathematically where x = 3-- in which case a code could be uncovered: "I wanna take a ride on your disco stick." Rumour has it that Lady Gaga was a fan of Shem the Penman, even though Shem didn't actually exist.
However, if one spent long enough trying to discern meaning from the chaotic passages, the text became self-aware and formed a narrative playing on the fears and psyche of the reader. Because of this, all attempts at transcribing a linear rendition of Viceking's Graab's narrative have proven inconsistent with other readings of the same text.
Another rumour is that Thomas T. Goldsmith Jr. and Estle Ray Mann were devoted scholars of this story. Any significance to this, we're afraid we've no fucking clue. You're on your own. Do we even mean "this story" as in Shem's short story, or do we maybe mean "this story" as these interpretations of Shem's short story, or could we mean "this story" as in this Wiki article? The world is full of questions. If you want answers, you've got to start by yourself.
